When you're desperate to know, waiting for a missed period can feel impossible. That's exactly the moment First Response was built for. Its Early Result In-Stream test is sensitive enough to pick up the pregnancy hormone hCG as early as 6 days before your missed period, which for a lot of people means an answer days sooner than they thought they'd get one.
Meet the First Response In-Stream test. The design is refreshingly simple, no cup, no mess, no drops to measure. You just hold the wide tip in your stream for a few seconds, cap it, lay it flat, and read two clear pink lines or one at the 3 minute mark. It's one of the most recognised and trusted early-result tests around, and the wide easy-read window takes some of the squint and second-guessing out of a nervous moment.
Here's the honest part, because it matters. Testing this early is genuinely possible, but the earlier you go, the less hCG there is to detect, so an early negative isn't a definite no. Accuracy climbs day by day as your period approaches, passing over 99% once your period is due. That's the real reason a 3 pack makes sense, test early if you can't wait, then retest closer to your date to be sure.
Whatever the result, and whatever you're hoping for, this is a test that lets you find out on your own terms, a little sooner, without any fuss.
- Detects hCG up to 6 days before your missed period

About this product
How early can I test?
As early as 6 days before your missed period, which is 5 days before your period is due. Keep in mind that testing that early, detection is lower, around 6 in 10 people in the manufacturer's testing, because there's less hCG present. Accuracy rises each day and passes 99% once your period is due.
How do I use an in-stream test?
Hold the wide absorbent tip in your urine stream for 5 seconds with the result window facing away from you, then cap it and lay it flat. Read it at 3 minutes. If you'd prefer, you can dip the tip in a sample collected in a clean dry cup for 5 seconds instead.
What does a positive look like?
Two pink lines, even if one is fainter than the other. They don't have to match in darkness. One line on its own means not pregnant. If you see a second line at all within the reading window, treat it as a likely positive and follow up.
I tested early and got a negative. Am I definitely not pregnant?
Not necessarily. An early negative can simply mean there isn't enough hCG to detect yet. If your period doesn't arrive within a few days, retest, which is why the pack has three. If you keep getting negatives and your period still doesn't come, check with your doctor.
When's the best time of day to test?
Any time works once your period is due, but for early testing, first-morning urine is best because hCG is most concentrated then. Try not to drink a lot of fluid beforehand, as that can dilute the sample.
Should I see a doctor if it's positive?
Yes. A positive result means hCG was detected, which usually indicates pregnancy, but you should see your doctor to confirm it and begin your care.
How is this different from your hCG test strips?
Both detect the same hormone early. This First Response test is a premium, individually designed in-stream test with no cup needed, ideal when you want a trusted brand for the big moment. Our HcgDetect strips cost far less per test, so they suit testing early and often, but you dip and read them yourself. Many people keep both, strips for the frequent early checks and a First Response for confirmation.
