Know your body. Know your window.

Many people spend months trying to conceive without realising they're missing their most fertile days. The good news is that timing is one of the easiest things to improve.

The four methods

How to actually find your fertile window.

Each method tells you a different part of the story. The clearest picture often comes from using more than one method together.
Ovulation predictor kits

OPK strips

Detect the LH surge that happens 24-36 hours before ovulation. The most reliable way to predict ovulation ahead. For most people, starting around day 10 of your cycle is a good place to begin.

Basal body temperature

BBT charting

A small temperature rise after ovulation confirms it happened. It won't predict ovulation, but it can help confirm whether and when it happened, which is valuable information for future cycles.

Cervical mucus

Mucus tracking

Egg-white mucus appears in the days before ovulation. This method is free, fairly accurate, and works alongside any other method.

App-based

Cycle apps

Useful for spotting patterns and predicting, but a calendar prediction alone isn't enough. Always pair it with one of the other methods mentioned.

When to act

The simple rule for timing insemination or intercourse.

If you're using OPKs: If you're using OPKs, a positive result means your LH surge has begun. Inseminate or have intercourse within the next 12–36 hours. If you're using fresh sperm for insemination, earlier is generally better.
If you're tracking BBT only: by the time your temperature rises, you've already ovulated. Use BBT to confirm cycle patterns, but pair it with OPKs for live timing.
If you're relying on a app alone: they're great for spotting patterns, but not for pinpointing ovulation. The fertile window your app predicts is based on past data, so it's best to confirm it with OPKs.
