How to Use the Dinky Insemination Kit
Your gentle, no-fuss introduction to at-home insemination. The Dinky Kit includes everything you need for up to 3 insemination cycles, with clear, easy-to-follow steps for each part of the process.
Track Ovulation with LH Strips
To increase your chances of conception, you’ll want to time insemination around ovulation. The kit includes 10 high-quality ovulation test strips to help you find your fertile window.
How to test:
Start testing a few days before expected ovulation (usually around Day 10 of your cycle).
Collect urine in a clean specimen cup.
Dip the strip in the urine for 5–10 seconds, making sure not to pass the MAX line.
Lay the strip flat and wait 3–5 minutes.
A positive result = the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. This is your LH surge, and ovulation will likely occur within the next 12–36 hours.
💡 Inseminate on the day of your positive test and again the next day if possible.
Collect the Semen Sample
Use one of the 3 included specimen cups for semen collection.
Allow the sample to liquefy for 15–30 minutes at room temperature before insemination.
Load the Syringe
Use one of the round-tipped syringes provided.
Slowly draw the semen into the syringe, taking care to avoid air bubbles.
Once loaded, keep the syringe tip upright and avoid touching any surfaces.
Inseminate
Find a comfortable position — many choose to lie on their back with hips slightly elevated.
Gently insert the syringe into the vaginal canal and slowly press the plunger to release the semen near the cervix.
Remain lying down for 15–30 minutes after insemination.
Insert the Softdisc (Optional, but recommended)
To help reduce leakage and keep the semen closer to the cervix:
Pinch a disposable Softdisc in half to form a narrow shape.
Insert it into the vaginal canal, aiming toward the tailbone.
Tuck the front rim behind the pubic bone to secure it.
The disc can be worn for several hours or overnight for optimal support.
Wait and Test
After ovulation, wait 10–14 days before testing for pregnancy using one of the 3 included HCG pregnancy test strips.
How to test:
Use first morning urine for the most accurate results.
Dip the test strip into a urine sample (collected in a clean specimen cup).
Wait 3–5 minutes.
One line = not pregnant, two lines = potential positive.
💡 If you get a negative result and your period doesn’t start, wait a couple days and test again.
Simple. Supportive. Empowering.
The Dinky Kit is perfect for those taking their first steps into at-home insemination — no overwhelm, just essentials and encouragement 💗
Frequently asked questions
Can I use this kit for self insemination at home?
Yes, The Dinky is specifically designed as a self insemination kit. Everything you need for up to three cycles of at-home insemination is included.
Is home insemination the same as IUI?
Not exactly. Clinical IUI (intrauterine insemination) is performed by a doctor. Home insemination using The Dinky is intracervical insemination (ICI) - a safe, effective method you can do yourself. Many people search for an "IUI kit at home" and ICI is the at-home equivalent.
What is a turkey baster method?
The "turkey baster method" is a common informal name for at-home insemination. The Dinky replaces the turkey baster with a proper round-tipped insemination syringe, making the process cleaner, more precise, and more comfortable.
Where can I buy an insemination kit in NZ?
Right here! Hapū Helpers is a New Zealand-based store shipping insemination kits across NZ and Australia. No need to search "insemination kit near me" as we ship directly to your door.
How many cycles does it take?
Everyone's journey is different. The Dinky covers up to three insemination cycles, which is a great starting point. Many customers conceive within their first few attempts.
Can same-sex couples or solo parents use this kit?
Absolutely. The Dinky was created by a same-sex couple (Taryn & Kat) and is used by LGBTQ+ couples, solo parents by choice, and couples of all kinds.
